Original Documents
- You will need to make sure of the following :
- • An apostille of the original document is acceptable.
- • Appropriate signature is provided.
- • Original document was recently issued.
- • Destination country accepts apostilles ONLY of the original document.
- • You understand an apostille of the original takes anywhere from 5-10 business days.
- The Kentucky Secretary of State located in Frankfort apostilles public and private documents if the following applies:
- • Vital Records such as birth, marriage and death certificates were issued by the Kentucky Department of Vital Statistics and were signed by State Registrar Paul F. Royce
- • Notarized documents were signed by a Registered Notary in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and signature is certified by the County Clerk in the county where the Notary took the oath of office.
- • If the document is a Divorce Decree, it must be signed by a judge and/or a circuit clerk and the signature must be certified by the County Clerk where the circuit court is located
- Reminders
- • Signatures by State Registrars Barbara F. White or Gary L. Kupchinsky are NOT acceptable for an apostille.

Scanned Photocopy of Original Document
- You will need to make sure of the following :
- • Appropriate signature is NOT provided.
- • Original document is damaged.
- • Original document was issued over 10 years ago.
- • Destination country ACCEPTS apostilles of the scanned photocopy of the original document; most countries do accept an apostille of the scanned photocopy.
- • You need the apostille within 24 hours.
- Reminders :
- • Because the notary and the apostille are required to be issued from the same state, the scanned photocopy of the original document that you provide will be notarized and apostilled in New York.
